#postchat baker #nomquerers baking exchange food pr0n

Memorial Day is upon is, so I thought it’d be a great time to introduce round three of our editor baking exchange, lovingly referred to as #nomquerers (or sometimes #postnoms to save characters). We’ll celebrate the long weekend and official beginning of summer with another exchange of delicious baked goods between post production professionals across the country (or world, if anyone is willing). We had something like 14 participants last time, most of which were guys!

How does it work?

Check out our tumblr and a couple of my past posts to get an idea. Basically, I’m setting a deadline of May 24th to opt into being a part of this round. @ me or DM me on Twitter and let me know you want in, and give me your address (or verify the address I have for you if you’ve done it before). On May 25th, I’ll use a random number generator to match you up with another post pro. It’s not a direct exchange - if you send to me, I won’t necessarily be sending to you. You’re just assigned a recipient. Then, BAKE! Get your goodies sent out within the following week (by June 1st, if you can). Feel free to include as much or as little as you want. All that’s required is one homemade baked goodie, but many past bakers have included a small selection of 2-4 treats, edit bay toys, decor, or even local delights and beer. When you receive your care package, post pictures on Twitter and the tumblr.

tl;dr: Let me know if you want in by May 24th, I’ll assigned you a recipient by May 25th, and you should ship by June 1st. One nom minimum. Post pictures and recipes!

What about shipping?

If you pack your goodies well, the standard shipping should be OK. However, it seems to be that priority (3-5 day) shipping is the norm. The cost varies depending on where the package is going and how far away, but it’s usually not too bad. It’s worth it to participate — and you’re getting a box back!

What about international nomquerers? Are we allowed?

Shipping baked goodies overseas or across borders can be tricksy. If you’re in another country and want to participate, let me know and I’ll check shipping costs. I’ll probably have your sender be someone that’s OK with the added expense, and you’ll have to be OK with it too. We haven’t had anyone international yet!

What the hell are noms?

You must be new to the internets.

Might be a little too late, but i just found an awesome site that gives you a nice, seemingly effective, and cheap solution to safely shipping cupcakes. It’s definitely gonna help me out - hopefully it’ll help someone else out too. Happy baking (and shipping)!

Welcome to Round 2 of #nomquerers or #postnoms, whatever you want to call it. We have four new participants - @jamesnw, @sarfeed, @couryc and @zebratape. Yay, ten baking editors!

I assigned everyone a number in a list, then used a random sequence generator (the Internet has everything!) to assign who would send to whom. You will send one box to the person you are assigned to on this list, not a direct exchange among everyone.

Here we go!

@kyl33t will send to @zebratape
@theriotisover will send to @ninjakittay
@ninjakittay will send to @theriotisover (funny how that turned out, the random number generator has spoken.)
@jackmcfly will send to @kyl33t
@debesch will send to @jackmcfly
@macgarp will send to @sarfeed
@zebratape will send to @couryc
@jamesnw will send to @macgarp
@couryc will send to @jamesnw
@sarfeed will send to @debesch

I will DM you your recipient’s address this evening. If you participated last time, let me know if your address is different, or I will use the same one as before.

Please ship your goodies by 2/14 - if you can do it sooner and have them arrive FOR Valentine’s Day, you get bonus nomquer points! Keep in mind if you do not send (and do not give explanation, we realize shit happens and we’re all busy), you will be publicly shamed. :)

Minimum requirement is a package of one baked good. Whatever else you’d like to do is also acceptable! Small selection of a couple different goodies? Candy? Local treat? Editcave enhancements? A Valentine? Anything is accepted, only a baked yummy is expected.

You’ll have access to the nomquer tumblr so you can post your recipes, photos of your items, stories behind any items you may include, and photos of the items and packages you get.

It’s also gotten a bit crowded to tag everyone in a tweet about nomquerers. My suggestion to everyone is to just start tagging with #nomquerers, and make a filter in your Twitter application (Tweetdeck, Echofon) to give you a notification whenever that tag is used. If anyone has any better suggestions, I’m all for them.

Looks like this round we’ll have noms crossing the country from Indianapolis, North Carolina, Milwaukee, New York City, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Denver! Happy nomquering!!

If you’ve followed any of us on Twitter over the last few months you may have noticed we’ve been talking about #nomquerers and posting a lot of pictures of baked goods. What we put together through #postchat is a baked good exchange for editors who love to bake! We’re planning on doing another exchange on Valentine’s Day, and we’re opening it up if anyone else wants to get in on this round. This is all you have to do:

-Tweet me (@kyl33t) and let me know you want to participate (even if you were a previous nomquerer, just confirm your participation.)
-and DM me the address you’d like noms sent to.

Next week, I will assign everyone a person to send a bundle of goodies. I’ll be using a random number generator and some black magic to assign everyone a person. (This isn’t like the first round where we all sent a box to everyone - you’re only responsible for one person, one box.)

Then, you are required to send some baked goods of your choosing to your recipient.

Note that so far, we’ve only done exchanges within the US. If you are outside the US and want to participate, note that international shipping charges will be significantly higher than domestic.

The minimal requirement is one bundle of some kind of cookie or treat. If you look to past posts, you’ll see that many of us also chose to make a small care package with a couple of selections of cookies and brownies and some #editcave toys and decor. If you want to do this, great! If not, that’s ok too! Your main focus should be the noms!

Then, after the exchange, jump on this Tumblr and on Twitter and post your recipes, and when you get your boxes, share photos of what was inside.

It’s been a lot of fun to send and receive baked goods across the country. It’s not just about the noms, but also about a community within a community. But cookies in the mail are always awesome.

If you’d like to participate in this round of yummy #postnoms, tweet me by February 7th. Then I’ll assign everyone a recipient, and you should send your goodies by Valentine’s Day!

The Mr just sent me this photo!! Nom nom nom!!

(& yes, that is a fine coating of snow on the step…)

WOOOOO!! :D @theriotisover’s noms arrived today! Just on the eve of the eve of the holiday and winter solstice. Sticking with my theme last time, I’d like to make you groan and giggle at another holiday song butchered to fancy me and our Nomquer deal, so full of vegan gingerbread and fueled by spice - I give you, my goofy rendition. ENJOY!

Just in time for Christmas, the first round of #nomquerers is complete.

2.5 months, 36 packages, several dozen cookies, and a few fun toys and treats later, we’re done.

Now I’m all sadfaced that I won’t be getting anymore packages in the mail.

I think this baking exchange is slightly amazing. How often do you get people on the internet together who all love baking and love editing and actually send packages to each other? Not just packages, but GOOD packages - amazing treats, and some amazing toys too. Nobody flaked out and everyone delivered. Twitter is awesome.

I hope you all enjoyed being a founding #nomquerer and attempting to explain why you were getting random boxes from internet strangers to your coworkers and families.

@macgarp, @jack_mcfly, @debesch, @theriotisover, and @ninjakittay - we’ve all tasted the treasures of each others’ ovens, we are officially no longer internet strangers!

Thanks for making this awesome. #postchat4life

AND WHILE I HAVE YOU HERE -

I mentioned last week doing a periodic #nomquerer exchange throughout the year, but instead of sending to everyone, you would be assigned one person to make a nom care package for - homemade treats are the minimum requirement, whatever else you want to add is fun. I suggested opening it up to more #postchatters and getting a larger group, then randomly assigning senders and receivers. I suggested doing this around Valentine’s Day to start. Maybe a couple other times throughout the year when nothing holiday-ish is going on, like maybe mid-summer and Fall. Like sort of a periodic pick-me-up from the grueling pace of life :) I think almost all of you said you were in. I’ll try to round up more people next month and see what happens. It will be an interesting change in dynamic to the #postnoms because it’ll be interesting to see what everyone gets through reading posts on here!

I stalked out the FedEx delivery man because I wanted to make sure I got my noms before leaving the office for a long weekend. As soon as I saw the little man drive by (my desk faces the window which faces the road, isn’t that great for editing?), I skipped to reception to retrieve my package.

I knew which one was mine because it was in a tape box.

(You can see a corner of @macgarp’s card on my pin board, I hung it up for festive decoration! Also my previous #teaoclock, Earl Gray Lavender.)

I was really pretty excited to look inside for a couple of reasons.

First of all, the noms looked amazing (the cupcakes rolled around a bit but they went right back to their proper spot.)

Second, my friends had told me I should really get some skull candy earbuds for traveling, but I just never got around to doing it. I’ve been using some horrible ones that crackle because one of my cats tried to nom them because I hate buying new things for myself. When I saw those, I squeed. I really needed them. Thanks.

Thirdly, the tea. This is kind of a funny personal thing. Let me explain. When I was about 14 and living in the cornfields, I got really into Moby and big cities and the idea of traveling (and I still am into all of these things.) I really wanted to move to NYC and go to NYU or another film or video school, but couldn’t. So I lived vicariously through the Internet and TV and music like Moby, who I loved even more because he lives in NYC and was such an interesting city person. So he helped open Teany around then (2001ish?) and I frickin’ loved it - the colors, the theme, the modern aspect of it all, the food, and the TEA! I put it on my “list”. I wanted to visit NYC - go to the Statue of Liberty, see a Broadway play, and drink a fine tea at Teany. Or better yet, move there and be a yuppie tea drinking film editor regular. When my parents visited in 2003 and 2007 I tried to get them to go there and get me tea but they are inept navigators and never found it, and I wanted tea someone bought for me there, not ordered online. I’ve yet to make it to NYC. Fast forward to this morning, I open a box and what awaits me? Teany tea. No joke, I gasped and ran to make some before my office closed for the day. It was absolutely wonderful. I love the smokiness and I’m looking forward to mixing up #teaoclock with some of that.

So yea, that wall-o-text explains why I was so excited by a little package of tea in a little package of noms. It’s not so much the tea itself (which is amazeballs itself), but that the tea stands for 11 years of goals and dreams for me, many of which are fulfilled, and many of which are not. Does that make sense? Probably not.

I fully realize this is sort of an offbeat personal story but I don’t care :-D

Thanks for giving me the cup of tea I’ve been waiting 11 years for, meaghan! :)

Sorry for the delay on these noms. They only lasted a couple of hours in my possession before they were..um, eated.

These were some of the best chocolate chip cookies I ever had. Everyone I offered one to asked for another. I can’t wait to make some myself. You can tell this recipe is aged. And it frickin’ uses lard.

@macgarp, thank you so much for opening my eyes to what my chocolate chip cookies could be. Seriously looking at that picture right now is making me go crazy. O_O
